Affordable Web Design

Affordable Website Designers

A good website should not cost a fortune, but cheap and low quality is a false economy. I build affordable websites for small businesses and start-ups across the UK: properly made, built to be found on Google, and yours to keep. Honest fixed pricing, with a pay-monthly option if you would rather spread the cost.

What affordable means

What affordable web design should actually mean

Affordable and cheap are not the same thing. A cheap website, a templated theme thrown together in a day, a page builder stuffed with plugins, or a DIY site you battle with yourself, usually ends up costing you more: in lost enquiries, in pages that never rank, and in paying again to have it rebuilt properly a year later.

Affordable means getting a website that does its job, attracts the right customers, loads fast, ranks on Google and represents your business well, at a fair, honest price with no waste. That is what I focus on. I keep costs down by working efficiently and directly, not by cutting the corners that actually matter.

The reason I can offer genuine quality at a sensible price is simple: there is no agency overhead. No account managers, no sales team, no city-centre office to pay for. You deal with me, the person doing the work, so your money goes into the website rather than the machine around it.

How I keep it fair

Affordable, without being cheap

Here is how I keep the price fair without cutting the things that count.

No agency overhead

You pay for the work, not the offices, account managers and sales teams that inflate agency quotes. That alone is often the difference between a four-figure quote and a five-figure one.

Efficient, proven builds

I build on a clean, proven approach rather than starting from a blank page every time, which keeps the time, and the cost, down without dropping quality.

Fixed, honest pricing

You get a clear, fixed quote before we start. No hourly creep, no surprise extras, no scope games. You know exactly what you are paying and what you are getting.

Pay monthly if it helps

If a lump sum is not realistic right now, you can spread the cost with a pay-monthly plan, so a professional website is within reach without a large upfront bill.

Every build, without exception

What you still get, even at the affordable end

Affordable does not mean stripped back. Every site I build, whatever the budget, includes the essentials done properly.

  • A professional design set up around your business and branding
  • Mobile-first, fast-loading pages with good Core Web Vitals
  • SEO foundations built in from the start, so you can be found on Google
  • Clear calls to action that turn visitors into enquiries
  • A contact form with spam protection
  • Google Analytics and Search Console set up
  • SSL security
  • Full ownership of the site, files and logins on completion
  • A walkthrough so you can update it yourself
The starter website

Everything a start-up needs to look professional.

The £995 starter website is built for new and small businesses that need a credible online presence without a big budget. It is not a cut-price template, it is a properly designed, professionally built WordPress site focused on the essentials: looking professional, being found, and making it easy for customers to get in touch.

It is the same design care and SEO foundations I put into my larger builds, focused into a tight, affordable 5-page package you can grow from as your business develops.

What's included:

  • Up to 5 professionally designed pages
  • Designed around your brand
  • Mobile-first and fast
  • On-page SEO foundations
  • Your copy, images and logo added
  • A simple contact form
  • Live within 1 to 2 weeks
  • 30 days post-launch support

Honest advice

When the starter website is right, and when it is not.

Perfect if you are…

  • A start-up needing a credible first website
  • A small business on a tight budget
  • A sole trader wanting to look professional
  • After the essentials done properly, not extras

You may need more if you…

  • Need an online shop (see ecommerce)
  • Want many pages or complex features
  • Need booking, membership or integrations
  • Want an in-depth SEO campaign from day one

If so, I will tell you honestly and quote the right option, no upsell.

Buyer beware

What to watch out for with cheap web design

If you are comparing quotes, these are the things that make a cheap website expensive in the long run:

  • Page-builder bloat (Elementor, Divi and similar) that loads slowly and hurts your Google rankings
  • No SEO foundations, so the site never gets found and you end up paying for ads to make up for it
  • No ownership, some cheap builders lock you in so you can never move the site or leave
  • DIY platforms like Wix and Squarespace that look easy but limit you and rarely rank for competitive terms
  • Hidden ongoing costs that are not clear in the headline price
  • A designer who disappears the moment the site goes live

I am upfront about all of this, because an affordable website is only good value if it actually works.

The honest truth

Affordable should never mean cheap.

There is a difference between an affordable website and a cheap one, and it matters more than most people realise. A cheap website is usually a generic template, filled with stock content, slow to load and invisible on Google. It costs little upfront and even less in return, and it often needs replacing within a year. That is not affordable. That is expensive twice.

An affordable website, done properly, is different. It is focused. It does the essential things a start-up actually needs, looking credible, being found, and making it easy to get in touch, and it does them well. It leaves out the expensive extras you do not need yet, without cutting the corners that matter. That is exactly what the £995 starter website is built to be.

By day I lead digital marketing for a major UK IT solutions and services provider. The same care and SEO discipline that goes into enterprise websites goes into the starter site, just focused into a tight, affordable package a new business can genuinely afford.

The process

How an affordable website comes together

A clear, efficient process is what keeps the cost down without cutting quality.

01

Conversation and quote

A quick chat about your business and what you need, then a clear, fixed quote. No obligation.

02

Design and build

A professional design built around your customers, then a fast, mobile-first build with SEO baked in.

03

Launch and handover

Tested, launched on your schedule, and handed over with full ownership and a walkthrough so you can manage it yourself.

Built to grow

A starting point, not a dead end.

The £995 starter website is deliberately focused on what a new business needs first. But it is built on WordPress, the same flexible, professional platform behind my larger projects, so it is never a dead end. As your business grows, the site grows with it.

You can add more pages, a blog, an online shop, booking systems or a full SEO campaign whenever you are ready, all built on the same foundation. Many of my clients start with an affordable site and expand it step by step as the business takes off. You are never locked in, and you own everything.

And if you would rather not pay upfront at all, the same professional standard is available on a pay monthly plan from £45 a month, with hosting, updates and support included. Whichever suits your cash flow, the quality is the same.

Be clear-eyed

What an affordable website can and cannot do

Can

  • Get you online with a professional site
  • Be rank-ready with proper SEO foundations built in
  • Convert visitors with clear structure and calls to action
  • Be owned and managed by you
  • Be spread over monthly payments

Cannot

  • Include complex, bespoke functionality at the lowest tier, that needs a larger build
  • Rank overnight, SEO still takes time
  • Succeed if the offer or content is weak
  • Be both the cheapest quote and the best quality, real value sits in between

Who affordable web design is right for

Start-ups, sole traders and small businesses that need a professional, properly built website without an agency price tag. If you need something more complex, ecommerce, membership or bespoke functionality, that is a larger build, and I will tell you honestly when that is the case.

Kind words

What clients say.

"Searching for website designers gave us a long list to choose from, but we're so glad we found Richard at Harrison Mann. He's been incredibly helpful with digital marketing advice and support, and thanks to him, we've now got a solid plan in place to boost footfall at both of our salons."

Adrian De Luca

"We wanted more control over our website, as we'd been relying on another agency to make updates. Being able to change content ourselves quickly was important, and the custom WordPress website now lets us do just that. The new site has already helped boost our sales."

Lynne Stutterheim

"After opening our new flooring showroom, I knew we needed a strong online presence. Finding the right website designer in Bradford made all the difference. We now have a great site that shows up locally for the keywords our customers are searching. It's the little percentage improvements that the team have really helped us with, we're already seeing more people coming through the doors."

Good to know

Affordable website FAQs.

A professionally designed 5-page WordPress website built around your brand, with mobile-first design, on-page SEO foundations and a simple contact form. I add your copy, images and logo, and it is live within one to two weeks and yours to keep.
It is a fixed price for the 5-page starter website, agreed upfront. You will need hosting and a domain (from a few pounds a month), which I can set up for you, but there are no hidden design fees. Anything beyond the starter scope is quoted clearly before I begin.
Yes. The starter website is built to grow. You can add pages, features and functionality as your business develops, quoted clearly each time.
Yes. If you would rather spread the cost, pay monthly websites start from £45/month with no large upfront fee, including hosting, updates and support.
Absolutely. The starter website uses the same design care and SEO foundations as my larger builds, it is simply focused on the essentials a start-up needs. It is a professional site, not a cheap template.
It depends on the number of pages and what the site needs to do, but I give you a fixed quote up front so there are no surprises. For many small businesses a professional site costs far less than they expect, especially without agency overhead.
Genuinely cheap web design usually costs more in the long run, through lost enquiries, poor rankings and rebuilds. Affordable, properly built web design is different: fair value that actually works. That is what I aim for.
A professional design, mobile-first build, SEO foundations, contact form, analytics, security and full ownership. The essentials done properly, not stripped out to hit a price.
Yes. If a lump sum is not realistic, you can spread the cost with a pay-monthly plan, so you get a professional website without a large upfront bill.
The headline can look cheaper, but DIY platforms limit your design, often rank poorly and can lock you in. A properly built site you own outright is usually better value over time.
Yes, always. On completion you get full ownership of the site, the files and every login. No lock-in.
