A Shopify store that actually sells.
70% of shopping carts are abandoned before purchase. The difference is trust, speed and a buying experience built around how your customers actually shop. I build Shopify stores designed from the ground up to convert.
Is your online store letting your products down?
You know your products are great. The problem is your website is not communicating that. Customers arrive, feel uncertain, and leave. Meanwhile your competitors with better-built stores take the sale.
Custom Shopify stores built to convert.
I build fully managed Shopify stores designed around the way your customers actually shop. The product page, the checkout flow, the trust signals, the payment options and the post-purchase experience, every element is considered and tested.
Shopify is the best ecommerce platform for most UK businesses selling physical products. It handles hosting, security and updates automatically, has an intuitive admin, and processes payments reliably. I build custom, not template.
Everything included:
- Custom Shopify theme (not a template)
- Mobile-first, fast-loading build
- Product and collection setup
- Shopify Payments and Klarna
- PayPal and alternative payment gateways
- Shipping rates and Royal Mail integration
- Google Merchant Centre and Shopping setup
- SEO-optimised product pages
- Discount codes and gift cards
- Email capture and Klaviyo/Mailchimp integration
- Google Analytics ecommerce tracking
- CMS training and documentation
A Shopify store that earns trust quickly, loads fast on mobile, converts a higher percentage of visitors into buyers, and appears in Google Shopping results.
I plan and run ecommerce and performance campaigns at enterprise scale by day, and bring the same systematic approach to every Harrison Mann store. See how this worked for a real client.
What ecommerce web design actually involves
Ecommerce web design is not a nice-looking storefront with a buy button. It is conversion engineering. Every part of the store has one job: to move a cautious visitor to a confident purchase, and then bring them back. Most online stores lose sales not because the products are wrong, but because the experience quietly creates doubt at the moments that matter.
There are four layers to get right. The first is trust: reviews, clear returns and delivery information, recognisable payment options and a site that simply feels safe to buy from. The second is the product experience: photography, honest and specific product copy, sizing and specification clarity, and social proof on the page where the decision is actually made. The third is friction: guest checkout, fast mobile pages, saved details, and payment choice including Klarna or pay-later. The fourth is growth: SEO, a clean Google Shopping feed, email capture and a post-purchase journey that turns one order into a repeat customer.
A template can give you the look. It cannot make those four layers work together around your specific products and customers. That is the difference between a store that exists and a store that sells.
Shopify or WooCommerce: which is right for your store?
Both are excellent, and they suit different businesses. Shopify is hosted, so it handles security, updates, hosting and payment reliability for you. It is the fastest, lowest-maintenance route to a professional store, and it is the right answer for most UK businesses selling physical products. The trade-off is a monthly plan and transaction model, and slightly less freedom at the technical edges.
WooCommerce runs on WordPress. You own and control everything, and it is the stronger choice when commerce is blended with a lot of content, or when you need something highly bespoke. The trade-off is that the hosting, security, backups and maintenance become your responsibility, or a cost you carry.
The honest rule of thumb: if you sell products and want to focus on selling rather than maintaining a platform, Shopify wins. If your site is content-heavy or genuinely unusual, WooCommerce earns its keep. I will tell you which fits your business before we build, not after. See the full WordPress vs Shopify comparison.
What actually moves your conversion rate
Most carts are abandoned, and on mobile the figure is higher still, almost always for the same short list of reasons. Unexpected costs or unclear delivery at checkout. Being forced to create an account. A checkout that is fiddly on a phone. Slow pages. Thin or stock-looking product photography. No reviews, so the buyer has no reason to trust you over a competitor they already know.
Fixing conversion is rarely one big change. It is removing each of those small doubts: showing delivery cost and timing early, offering guest checkout and Klarna, compressing the page so it loads in well under three seconds, putting genuine reviews on the product page, and writing product copy that answers the question the buyer is actually asking. Each fix is worth a few percent. Together, on the same traffic you already have, they are the difference between a store that breaks even and one that pays for itself.
Getting your products found in Google Shopping and AI search
Product discovery is changing. Alongside traditional search, customers now find products through Google Shopping, through Google's AI Overviews, and increasingly by asking AI assistants directly for a recommendation. Appearing in all of them comes down to the same foundations: a correctly configured Google Merchant Center, a clean and complete product feed, accurate product schema (price, availability, reviews) so search engines and AI models can read your catalogue, and genuine review signals.
I set every store up so its products are structured and machine-readable from launch, which means they are eligible to appear not just in organic search but in Shopping and in the AI-generated answers that more and more buyers now start with.
Frequently asked questions about ecommerce web design
How much does an ecommerce website cost in the UK?
Most custom Shopify builds land between £3,500 and £8,000, depending on your product range, integrations and design complexity. You also need to budget for the platform itself: Shopify plans start at around £25 per month, plus transaction fees unless you use Shopify Payments. I give you a fixed quote up front so there are no surprises.
Should I choose Shopify or WooCommerce?
For most businesses selling physical products, Shopify, because it handles hosting, security and updates for you and lets you focus on selling. WooCommerce is the better choice if your site is content-heavy or needs something highly bespoke, but you take on the maintenance. I will recommend the right one for your specific situation before we start.
How long does it take to build a Shopify store?
A typical custom store takes around four to eight weeks from first conversation to launch, depending on product count and integrations. The biggest variable is usually how ready your product information and photography are.
Will my products show up on Google?
The foundations are built in: SEO-optimised product pages, product schema, and a verified Google Merchant Center and Shopping feed. Organic rankings for competitive product searches take months to build, so paid Google Shopping is often the fastest way to drive traffic while the organic rankings compound.
Can you migrate my existing store to Shopify?
Yes. I migrate products, customers and order history, set up redirects so you keep your existing search rankings, and make sure nothing breaks in the move.
Do you offer support after launch?
Yes. You get full training and documentation at handover, and ongoing support is available if you want a hand rather than going it alone.

What clients say.
"Searching for website designers gave us a long list to choose from, but we're so glad we found Richard at Harrison Mann. He's been incredibly helpful with digital marketing advice and support, and thanks to him, we've now got a solid plan in place to boost footfall at both of our salons."

"We wanted more control over our website, as we'd been relying on another agency to make updates. Being able to change content ourselves quickly was important, and the custom WordPress website now lets us do just that. The new site has already helped boost our sales."

"After opening our new flooring showroom, I knew we needed a strong online presence. Finding the right website designer in Bradford made all the difference. We now have a great site that shows up locally for the keywords our customers are searching. It's the little percentage improvements that the team have really helped us with, we're already seeing more people coming through the doors."

Honest answers about Shopify and ecommerce.
I would rather you go in with accurate expectations than be disappointed three months after launch.
Shopify plans start at £25/month. You also pay a small transaction fee unless using Shopify Payments. Build these into your business model before I start, they are worth it, but you need to know about them.
SEO takes time. I set up all the foundations, but competitive product searches take months of consistent optimisation to rank well. Paid Google Shopping can drive traffic immediately while the organic rankings build.
The best Shopify store in the world will not convert well with poor product photography. I will be honest if your images need improving before I build, because it is one of the biggest conversion factors in ecommerce.
You know your products, your customers and your market better than I do. The best ecommerce projects are collaborative. I need your input on product descriptions, delivery policies, brand positioning and target customer.
