Frequently asked questions

How do I work out how many leads I need?

Divide the number of sales you need each month by your close rate. If you need 20 sales and you close 25% of leads, you need 80 leads. If your website converts at 3%, you would need around 2,667 visitors to generate 80 leads. Working backwards like this makes abstract revenue targets into concrete activity targets you can actually plan around.

What is a realistic close rate?

Close rates vary enormously by sector, sale value and sales process. For low-value, high-volume sales it might be 20 to 40%. For complex B2B sales with a longer cycle, 10 to 20% is typical. For a premium service business with a strong initial qualification process, a close rate of 50% or more is achievable. The most important thing is to track your own close rate consistently and improve it over time.

What is a realistic website conversion rate?

For a local service business with focused organic or PPC traffic, 2 to 5% is achievable. For a general site with mixed or untargeted traffic, 1 to 2% is more common. The conversion rate depends heavily on how well the traffic matches the offer, how clearly the page communicates trust and value, and how easy it is to take the next step. Small improvements in conversion rate have a large effect on the visitors needed to hit a given target.
